Prefixes and Suffixes Examples with Urdu Meanings

Prefixes are the letters or group of letters that are added at the start of root word to change its meanings. Suffixes are the letters or group of letters that are added in the end of a root word to changes its meanings.

Before going towards prefixes and Suffixes, we must know about Affixes. What are the Affixes? Once you know about the Affixes, you may easily learn Prefixes and Suffixes.

Affixes

Affixes are the letters or series of letters that are added to a root word to change its meanings. These affixes may be added at the start of word or at the end of word. When they are added at the start of a root word, they are called Prefixes and when they are added in the end of root word, they are called Suffixes. For example

Im + possible = impossible

Teach + er = teacher

In this example, we are using two affixes, one is “im” and the other is “er”. “im” is used at the beginning of word, so it will be known as a Prefix“. “er” is used at the end of word, so it will be known as a Suffix. So from above discussion, we found that affixes are of two types, Prefixes and Suffixes. Prefixes and suffixes are the subdivisions of Affixes.
